Accessorising Your Home: Embracing Bright Colours
At Haus of Design, we believe that great interiors should not only look great, but should last. A well designed home is an investment; It should stand the test of time, adapt to changing lifestyles, and never feel dated a few years down the line.
That’s why, when it comes to colour, we take a considered and intentional approach.
Rather than committing to permanent bold hues, we encourage having a timeless foundation. However, creating a long lasting design shouldn’t mean having to sacrifice colour and personality. Choosing, instead, to introduce colour through accessorising allows personality, creativity, and vibrancy, without compromising on longevity.
All of our designs start with a clean, refined foundation, adding in character further along. We stray from trends and ensuring your home won’t feel outdated in a few years time.

Here are the best ways we have found for incorporating colour into your home.
Furniture.
A brightly coloured lounge chair, a funky coffee table, or vivid dining chairs are a great way to brighten up a room and make a space feel more like your own. This doesn’t have to be expensive either; vintage stores and furniture outlets are a great place to find stand-out items.
Not only are you adding visual interest, but you also have the aspect of functionality – meaning you won’t be taking up unnecessary space.

Paint.
Colour directly impacts mood, with each colour evoking a unique emotion. Yellow being happy and uplifting, green encouraging thoughts of balance and growth, blue feeling tranquil and calm, and so on.
Whether it’s the entire room, or an accent wall, paint is a classic way of bringing life to a space. And it doesn’t have to feel like a big commitment; if you grow to dislike it, you can just repaint with a fresh colour.

Plants and flowers.
Possibly the most simple and effective method is utilising plants and flowers around your home. Embracing nature into your space aids in creating a welcoming, yet calming, environment. With choices of faux flowers and plants, succulents, and other low maintenance options, it won’t need to be on the forefront of your mind either.

General decor.
Experiment with design concepts and self-expression. Bringing your ideas to life transform a house into a personalised and meaningful home.
There are almost infinite ways to decorate:
- rugs
- throw blankets and cushions
- mirrors
- vases and plant pots
- curtains
- lamps and lampshades
- coffee table books
- trinket trays
- ornaments
- candles
- paintings
- clocks
- picture frames
…and so many more.

Final Thoughts:
A well-designed home means aiming towards long-term appeal. By beginning with a clean base, the need to renovate again is postponed. Redecorating when you feel like doing so is a much more sustainable and economical approach to design.
